Neuro-ophthalmology is an ophthalmic subspecialty that addresses the relationship between the eyes, the optic nerve, and the brain.
Common symptoms associated with neuro-ophthalmic disorders include:
- Vision loss
- Visual disturbance
- Diplopia
- Unequal pupils
- Eyelid and facial spasms
If you’re experiencing symptoms you suspect may be associated with a neuro-ophthalmologic disorder, we’ll be happy to evaluate you. This evaluation will be more extensive than a typical eye exam and may take a few hours.
The Evaluation
During a neuro-ophthalmologic evaluation, we will dilate your pupils for a better view of the retina at the back of the eye. Please arrange for a ride home following your appointment.
We’ll obtain a thorough case history and discuss all relevant information with you during your appointment. We will perform a complete eye examination. We may also complete a neurologic exam to test your strength and sensation.
After the evaluation, we will be able to review your results and make recommendations based on a diagnosis.
