TEAR DUCT OBSTRUCTION

If you have persistent tearing problems, causing blurred vision, eyelid irritation, and constant wet eyes, you may have an obstructed tear duct. Our natural tear usually
drains in the tear duct system down the throat. That is why sometimes, you taste something in your throat when you instill eye drops in the eyes.

However, the tear duct can be blocked at birth or as a person gets older. Besides the inconvenience of constant tearing, requiring wiping and drying out your eyes, blocking of the tear duct may lead to serious and painful tear sac infection.

Our doctors can perform a simple test to evaluate if your tear drainage system is blocked. If the tear duct is obstructed, our doctors can perform a DCR (dacryocystorhinostomy) surgery at the hospital on an outpatient basis to help open up the drainage. Most insurances cover this surgical procedure.
